Its very sad to kearn that Sam left us after such a great career !
I had the chance to see him rocking the place at Tipitinas in 1999 and had the chance to get my CD signed by this gentleman and Anson of course.
I kept on playing this CD (and several others from the band) from time to time and rembering how hot the atmosphere was there in New Orleans when Anson and Sam teared down the place !

I have watched and listened to Sweet Sam Myers for many years at da'Biscuit (I don't care what the pigs in suits in NYC say). I love the blues, love the Delta but it will just not be quite right without him blowing harp on that stage with Anson and the Rockets. I loved listening to that man sing, talk and play while I did my photographs. He was always the constant highlight of my photo trips to the festival. My friend, Bruce Newton, a consistent contributor to these pages informed me of Sam's death today and it saddened me greatly. Thank you Sam, Anson and the rest of the Rockets. Sam, I am almost sure there is a smoking section where you are. Say hello to my Mom and Dad. They are good people like you.

I just heard the news today after being gone on vacation. I only got to see Sammy perform twice in Helena, Arkansas, but I will miss him greatly. It was a highlight of my day to write to him almost daily in his guestbook during his recovery process. His music will live forever & now he plays in the heavenly choir. God speed to you Sammy, your devoted fan, Bruce

Sam was the greatest! I saw him two times here in Louisville, KY, and led him back on stage when he needed help. Talk to him at length during the breaks. I love his voice and soul! Sam, I know you are entertaining the angels!
love, Lynn

i was playing harp on the road with Sonny Rhodes back in the 1990's. We ran into Sam and Anson in Atlanta... We were all staying in the same hotel. They were playing at the Point, I believe, and we were at Blind Willies. Sam and Anson came by after the show....
I had met him many times before and he was ever so gracious, but in Atlanta I saw his true greatness. Not only one of, if not the most, unique players and singers of all time... but one of the most giving men on stage. He truly understood the concept of ensemble playing. He left his ego at the door...
There is a lesson to be learned in the way Sam treated his fellow bluesman, Sonny Rhodes, that evening in Atlanta... with respect, dignity, and fellowship... qualities modern bluesmen often overlook.
My heart goes out to Sam's family and bandmates... if I am breathless at the thought of never hearing that speaking voice again... I cannot fathom your pain.
My thanks go to Sam for all the wonderful things he taught me. He will be missed.
With hope that the joyous memories outlast your pain...
Big Nancy
